Washington Hall hotel ledger, 1832-1834.

Hotel ledger kept by John Morgan for Washington Hall, a hotel probably located in East Feliciana Parish, La. Ledger records names of visitors, payments and date of payments, and the purpose for which charges were made, such as board, dinner, lodging for horse or servants, drinks and sundries. Also included in the ledger are charges for the service of judicial writs and execution in civil cases in 1834. Each entry gives the title of the case, the date, the purpose of the writ or order, the total mileage accumulated while serving the order, and the cost. Tucked within the volume are two items, a receipt of Stephen Roberts for a payment made for keeping an apprehended runaway slave in a prison in Clinton, La., and a broadside advertising a play performed by Mrs. John's Benefit Theatre.
